Note: The duration of each delegate’s training session depends on the overall course length and the number of participants. An ideal group size is eight.

- Key questions for the trainer to consider in advance
- Why am I the right person for this?
- Logistics: What, where, when, how – and how long?
- Understanding how the answers to these questions influence the structure of the training session
- Structuring the content:
- Research – ensuring deep knowledge of the subject
- Organising the content in a logical order
- Creating and using complementary visual aids
Preparing the Trainer
- Three fundamental communication tools for trainers:
- Verbal – the words chosen, avoiding slang and jargon
- Vocal – the tone of voice, avoiding distracting verbal tics and unnecessary punctuations
- Visual – the presenter’s appearance: attire; mannerisms; presence
- Rehearsing the training session and seeking honest feedback from a trusted source
- Managing nerves
Preparing the Environment
- Room layouts – and how they convey underlying messages to attendees
- Using the room to enhance the training experience
- Ensuring the space is tidy after the course
